M2 very sinuous with abrupt 90˚ bend apically, m-cu 90˚ basal bend; wing infuscation black, with infuscated band apical to i-r1 cross-vein; meeting wing margin broadly at least entire posterior margin of m2, broadly in m1, in cua; distinct extension along R2+3. At most some scattered yellow scales anterolaterally on T2, none medially, white band medially divided on T3. T8 A no structural supports, no tube between symmetrically joined SP and BB.
Male.
Head. Face dark red, frons dark brown, vertex black; reddish-yellow scales, filling frontal depression, surrounding occipital groove; black setae longest below deep frontal depression, those beneath antennae almost as long as scape. Face with two slightly rounded lateral lobes at apex of clypeus. Narrow band of cream scales on posteroventral margin of eye.
Thorax. Collar reddish-yellow. Laterothoracic stripe not contrasting, reddish-yellow, yellow medially; fringe of fine, long scales on PA wall. Scutum shiny black; shiny red transparent scales; long, fine yellowish-red hair-like anteriorly; broader dark reddish-brown medially and posteriorly. Pleural vestiture of black setae, admixed with long red scales with reddish-brown iridescence; admixed mostly yellowish-red and some black Ma on PE and AN, Ma on anterior mesonotum yellow; long scales at base of wing creamy-yellow with silver iridescence. Anepimeral setae admixed black and red. Scales on APA yellow. Plumula and TR hairs creamy-yellow. LT with Ma yellowish-red, some black ventrally, yellow to cream dorsally. Scutellum shiny red, black anteromedially; scales shiny, yellow anteriorly, rest dark reddish-brown to black, black setae; bristles, black, strong, very long. Legs red; tarsomeres 2-5 black; dark reddish-brown to black scales, anterior surface of mid-femora with 5 strong black spines, 2 x longer than width of femur, fore coxae reduced, half length of fore-femur. Pulvilli wedge-shaped, less than 1/3 length of mid- and hind-tarsal claws. Halter knob yellow. Wing. M2 very sinuous with abrupt 90˚ bend apically, m-cu with 90˚ basal bend, r5 open, cup very narrowly open. Widened base of C with shiny reddish-brown scales. Patagium dense yellow scales, contrasting. Wing pattern dark brown to black; infuscated band apical to i-r1 cross-vein; very slight mottling at base of 2nd r2+3, meeting wing margin broadly often entire posterior margin, at least entire posterior margin of m2, broadly in m1, in cua; distinct apically-directed extension along R2+3. Hyaline band divided medially in m2 into two separate hyaline areas: subquadrate apically-directed medial spot in dc and either a lightly infuscated spot in cua or over CuA1; at most a medial hyaline band extending anteriorly into m2, basally through middle of cua, extreme apex of cup and anal cell. Alula brown, reduced. Squama yellow, with pale yellow scales.
Abdomen. Integument yellow with medial dark reddish-brown to black band; large yellowish areas laterally, rounded medially, width < 1/3 width of T2-3, < 1/4 width of T4, T5-6 dark reddish-brown, T7 yellow. T1 with creamy-yellow Ma and dark reddish-brown scales medially. T2 with dense long creamy-yellow hairs on anterolateral half. Scales small, rounded very shiny dark reddish-brown to black, adpressed; sparse on T2-3, dense on T4-5; small number of reddish-yellow scales anterolaterally on T2; broad dense white band on T3, broadly interrupted medially; T6-7 with sparse, large, white scales. Sternites reddish-yellow; S2-3 with long, fine white scales and dense, long, fine white hairs, some black setae; S4-7 with dark reddish-brown to black scales and black setae. Genitalia. Epandrium red with basal flange long, broad, subquadrate; short, thick, black setae strongly grouped anterolaterally on very small anterolateral flanges; SES long, linear, almost joined basally. Comments. This species is very similar to K. irwini except that the females of K. westralica have very infuscated wings with the medial hyaline band reduced to one or two spots.
This species has been collected in southern and western Western Australia.
